The AI Action Summit in France, taking place on February 10–11, will bring together world leaders, civil society representatives, and business executives to discuss the role of artificial intelligence in serving the public interest rather than exacerbating inequalities.

From February 14–16, the Munich Security Conference will convene in Germany as a crucial forum for global security discussions amid ongoing conflicts.

Germany will hold an early federal election on February 23 following the collapse of Chancellor Olaf Scholz’s coalition government after a no-confidence vote in December.

February 24 marks the third anniversary of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, with Moscow indicating a willingness to engage in peace talks under the new Trump administration in Washington.

As of February 3, the Trump Administration has revealed a three-step peace plan, with the hope that it will be finalised by May 9, 2025 to coincide with Europe Day and Russia’s Victory Day.

The first condition is for Ukraine to renounce its aspiration to become a NATO member. The second, a ceasefire and withdrawal of troops from selected regions, which are yet to be revealed, and thirdly, a lifting of sanctions on Russia, to be phased out over a three successive year period.

In space exploration, NASA’s SPHEREx mission is set to launch in late February, embarking on a two-year endeavour to map the entire sky in optical and near-infrared light and provide insights into the origins of the universe.

China’s annual Two Sessions parliamentary meeting will commence on March 5, offering insights into Xi Jinping and the Chinese Communist Party’s priorities for the year.

International Women’s Day on March 8 will be observed against the backdrop of declining women’s rights globally.

The 69th Commission on the Status of Women, commemorating the 30th anniversary of the Beijing Declaration, will be held in New York from March 10–21, focusing on renewed commitments to gender equality.

New Delhi will host the Raisina Dialogue from March 17–19, bringing together global leaders to discuss pressing geopolitical and economic challenges.

In Australia, the early federal budget is scheduled for March 25 in anticipation of the upcoming federal election, which must take place no later than May 24.

The 2025 Spring Meetings of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank Group are scheduled to take place in Washington from April 25–27.

April 30 will mark 100 days of Donald Trump’s second administration, a key milestone in assessing the trajectory of U.S. policy.

Albania’s parliamentary election on May 11 will, for the first time, allow citizens to vote from abroad.

The Philippines will hold its general election on May 12 under heightened security measures to prevent election-related violence.

Poland will also head to the polls for a presidential election on May 18, while Australia’s federal election must be held no later than May 24.

Global health policy will take center stage at the 77th World Health Assembly in Geneva from May 27–June 1, where world leaders are expected to finalize the long-awaited Pandemic Agreement.

The month will close with the IISS Shangri-La Dialogue, an annual security summit in Singapore from May 30–June 1, where Indo-Pacific security challenges will be at the forefront of discussions.

Canada will host the 51st G7 Summit from June 15–17.

The Netherlands will host the 2025 NATO Summit from June 24–26 in The Hague, marking the first time the country has hosted the alliance’s meeting.

June 25 will mark the 75th anniversary of the outbreak of the Korean War.

At the end of June, Norway will host the largest-ever UN meeting in its history, the Internet Governance Forum, where discussions on the future of digital governance will take place.

The UN’s AI for Good Global Summit will be held in Geneva from July 8–11.

Amid ongoing conflict in Israel and Palestine, July 11 will mark the 25th anniversary of the Camp David Summit, serving as a reminder of past peace efforts.

The UN’s High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development will take place in New York from July 14–24.

July will also see the largest-ever iteration of Exercise Talisman Sabre, with 19 countries participating in the biennial military exercise between Australia and the United States, alongside the deployment of a British Carrier Strike Group.

Brazil will host the BRICS Summit in Rio de Janeiro, while China is expected to hold the Shanghai Cooperation Organization Summit before the end of July.

Bolivia will hold a general election on August 17.

A California-based startup, Vast, is expected to launch Haven-1, the first commercial space station, aboard a SpaceX rocket in August.

The Pacific Islands Forum will be held in the Solomon Islands from September 8–12.

Norway will hold its parliamentary election on September 8 amid growing concerns about Tesla Co-founder Elon Musk’s influence on European politics.

The 80th UN General Assembly will open on September 9, with world leaders convening in New York from September 23.

The month will also mark the UN’s International Day of Peace on September 21.

Canada’s federal election is due by October 20, while Ireland’s presidential election is expected to take place by October 27.

The 2025 UN Climate Change Conference will be held in Belem, Brazil, from November 10–20, following the confirmation of 2024 as the hottest year on record.

Chile’s general election is set for November 16.

The G20 Summit will take place in Johannesburg, South Africa, from November 22–23, marking the first time the summit will be held on the African continent.

Singapore’s general election must be held by November 23.

Additionally, the APEC Summit in Gyeongju, South Korea, and the ASEAN and East Asia Summits in Malaysia will take place, although their exact dates are yet to be announced.

The annual AUKMIN Summit, which was held in December 2024, may occur again around the same time.

Other Key Events in 2025

Vladimir Putin is expected to visit India in early 2025.

Xi Jinping is set to visit Russia later in the year.

India will host the Quad Leaders’ Summit in the second half of 2025.

The UK is set to release its first externally led Strategic Defense Review.

Meanwhile, the International Court of Justice (ICJ) is expected to issue an advisory opinion on states’ obligations concerning climate change.
