Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Immigration, Badr Abdelatty, hosted a tripartite meeting in Cairo with Senegal’s Minister of African Integration, Yacine Fall and Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Tuggar this month.

The meeting, held as part of Egypt’s ongoing commitment to fostering African unity and cooperation, focused on strengthening ties, addressing mutual challenges, and advancing shared goals across the continent.

Minister Abdelatty underscored Egypt’s pride in its enduring relationships with both Senegal and Nigeria, emphasizing the strategic importance of tripartite collaboration. He highlighted the need for coordinated efforts to address pressing regional and global challenges while fostering economic and political integration in Africa.

To this end, he detailed Egypt’s various initiatives to support sustainable development, enhance trade, and promote peace and stability across African nations.

The discussions covered a range of issues, including combating terrorism, addressing instability, and bolstering economic ties. The ministers explored strategies to deepen cooperation in areas such as trade, security, and sustainable development.

On the same day, the Egyptian-Nigerian Business Forum took place at the General Authority for Investment and Free Zones. The forum provided a platform for entrepreneurs from both countries to engage, explore opportunities, and strengthen economic ties.

Minister Abdelatty stressed the importance of economic collaboration as a foundation for peace and prosperity, noting the untapped potential in sectors like renewable energy, sustainable agriculture, and water resource management.

He encouraged greater investment in green projects and highlighted the need for human capital development through educational exchanges and scholarships.

The forum saw the participation of Nigerian Foreign Minister Yusuf Tuggar, alongside other prominent Egyptian officials, including Minister of Investment and Foreign Trade, Hassan El Khatib,  Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation, Hani Sweilem, and Minister of Agriculture and Land Reclamation, Alaa Farouk.

Representatives from the Joint Business Council, major companies, and government officials also attended. Discussions emphasized partnerships in renewable energy, infrastructure development, and the localization of industries.

A significant outcome of the day was the signing of a joint declaration and an agreement on mutual visa exemptions for diplomatic passport holders between Egypt and Nigeria. This agreement, signed during the third round of Egypt-Nigeria political consultations, marked a milestone in facilitating closer diplomatic and economic cooperation.

The consultations also addressed key topics such as security in the Horn of Africa, the crises in Somalia and Sudan, and shared concerns over Red Sea security.  Bilateral talks between Egypt and Senegal focused on expanding trade and infrastructure cooperation.

The ministers discussed plans to involve Egyptian expertise in new city development, irrigation networks, land reclamation, and petrochemical industries too.  They explored the idea of transforming Dakar into a regional logistics hub by expanding its port and establishing a special economic zone near Ndayane. Cooperation in the oil, gas, and minerals sectors was also a priority.

The talks also included crises in the Sahel, West Africa, and the Horn of Africa, as well as developments in Gaza, Syria, and Libya.

Minister Abdelatty highlighted Egypt’s mediating role in promoting stability in Gaza and emphasized the importance of implementing ceasefire agreements to ensure lasting peace.
